Splitting the batting in order to quilt easily...Piquage par molleton sectionné...

My Christmas quilt (?) is now ready to be quilted.  I will use the technic of divided batting (I don't know if it's this way we name it in english).

My sandwich is done, in the center, ready to be quilted.  36 inches  x 36 inches square.  My entire quilt is 72 x 72 inches.

I will add other strips of batting when the center will be quilted, and a strip of  Light Steam a seam will keep the 2 strips together.  Then, I will quilt this new part and redo the same thing until the entire quilt will be done.  When quilting with only fabric between the needle and the sewing machine, it's easier than with batting.  In this case today, the quilt is square.  I just have to quilt all around the center, one side after the other.

I must say it's almost longer to tell it or write it than to do it.  In the picture below, you see a few of the batting ready to be joined to a new strip of batting.  It's easier to sew.  The quilting is not faster, it's easier.

Que le plaisir commence!  Je veux terminer avant le 20 avril.
Let's play!  I want it done before April 20th.

À la prochaine!

  2. I am not sure about your 'splitting' the batting. To me that sounds like you are dividing the batting into two layers! Which I don't think you are ding, I think you are adding as you go along which is more like quilt as you go? Anyway, it looks wonderfull!! xx

  5. It looks like a variation as quilt as you go. I would be so afraid of things shifting or puckering. I will love to see photos of your next step.

  6. Great info! I usually just zig-zag my batting scraps together but this would be easy too! Thanks for sharing.
